It has been pouring here pretty heavy as 2 tropical storms are here. I hit some puddles and drove through some heavy storms. I got up this morning and I couldn’t get the car to go into gear. I could shif
t when the car was off, but not while it is on.
I tried starting it in gear and the car lurched forward and died. I called a tow truck and called my insurance to see if this is covered. Something is up with the clutch or the peddle.
Sigh...so I am working from home....this is frustrating.
Update: So talked to the Mechanics, the Clutch is gone and it also caused my rear main oil seal to explode. Apparently, I am one of 9 cars they got also with water damage. My heart about stopped...

How many miles are on the clutch?

I had this issue with my Autozam. One of the springs broke out of the clutch hub center. The other 3 pockets were cracked too. Hopefully yours is hydraulic related, much easier fix.

78000 exactly...but I don’t think it is something that just appeared. I am thinking the water got in the flywheel or took out a slave cylinder .

That’s kinda what it sounds like. I believe my 3 is on the original clutch, it’s at 81k now.

Just generally frustrated....I just paid off most of my credit cards after being unemployed 2 months. So here comes the pain!!

Potentially totaled...my heart hurts

Oh fuck! What happened?

Clutch is gone, flywheel potentially damaged, rear main oil gasket blew...this is over $5500 in labor before parts. Insurance is involved. They can prove it was water damage, but damn....my heart...

I understand your pain. So I guess it’s going to get fixed? Personally, I’d fix it. Honestly, this is one reason I don’t DD mine.

We are waiting to see the costs and if it gets totaled out or not. If it is totaled, maybe I can still fix it and get basic coverage on it to keep driving it. I don’t know...likely won’t for a few days.
I have no idea what kinda car I’d get after this :(

Personally, I love my M3 and if something were to happen to it, it’d be either getting rebuilt or replaced. Even if it is totaled, keep it and get a refurbished engine and put it in. You could always get another, I really don’t know. All of this sucks man. Or just do what I do, 328i as the DD, M3 as the weekend toy.

Nooo!

I rarely drive on the weekends. It is why in 9 years my M3 has 78000 miles. I walk everywhere on the weekends.
So what is your take on these two potential replacements?

I’ve only got 48k on mine; 32k I put on. Mine is also a 2011.
I haven’t driven an ATS, but I’m not sure how I feel about them. I’ve ridden in one and it was quite cramped. The Mustang is much more up you alley. High revving V8 with a 6MT is what you need if you have to get rid of the M3. I do quite like that mustang. If the ATS was green I would be telling to you to get it.
The real alternative is to fix the M3, especially if it does it for you. The car might not be worth it, but there is something about loving what you drive. If not, get that mustang.

I’ve sat in the ATS-V at car events. I like the luxury and the power it has. 464hps and that one is a manual, but 4 doors...I prefer a coupe.
The Mustang GT350 I really like. But there is that prestige of having a Mustang. I am not sure I fit in that genre. And I drive like I am on fire sometimes, so I worry I will draw all the tickets to me.
I do agree on fixing the car...but I have to see how badly it is damaged. I am hoping Insurance saves me and I just pay the deductible
and I get my baby back.

GT350 is also on my shortlist if something happens with my car. Great design, and incredible sound. Read up about oil consumption before you sign anything - ha!

How bad of an Idea would this be?

I’ve heard they have some oil consumption issues, but other than that, not sure. I drove an F10 M5 back in 2016 and it made my E90 feel slow. I do imagine these things eat money, it’d at least be a good driving car. So terrible idea, and yet a great idea.
